Welcome to The Dubuque Tactical Martial Arts Weapons Academy Filipino
Stick Fighting, Sword, Bo Staff, Tonfa/PR-24, The D.T.M.A.W.A. is an eclectic system that is a culmination of traditional & modern tactical theories, concepts, & applications that has been influenced from different styles from all over the world. Some of the practical philosophies used in this program have been inspired from styles such as Kenpo, Hapkido, Tang Soo Do, Jeet Kune Do, Kendo, Kung Fu, Shotakan, Tae Kwon Do, Jujutsu, & Fencing, to name a few. In essence a true “Mixed Martial Art”. The program features History & Philosophy of the weapons, angling systems of attack and defense, competition training, tactical applications, joint lock manipulation, tactical submissions & disarms, flow drills, weapon sparring drills, and more. The foundation curriculum is based off of the Filipino Stick Fighting Systems & concepts of Escrima, Balintawak, Doce Pares, Arnes De Mano, Espada & Daga, Kali, Kombatan, & Silat. Various traditional martial arts weapons such as the Bo Staff, Nunchakus, Sai, Kama, Tactical Knife Fighting, Gun Defenses, Sword Techniques, Tonfa, & more will be introduced at different levels of the belt ranking system. This program is taught by expert instructors in a controlled safe and monitored training facility.
Chief Instructor & President of the U.S.T.M.A.A. Master Ronald D. Schmitt Master Ron is an internationally certified master instructor specializing
in traditional martial arts weapons. Offering 30 years of martial arts
experience. Master Ron's accomplishments include being the father of two sons Kolton & Karter. He graduating from Loras College with degrees in Business & Philosophy. He is a certified personal fitness trainer, Team Captain of a six time world championship winning demonstration team. 1995 & 1998 he was titled overall Black Belt Grand Champion in 2 regional championships, awarded competitor of the year 1985-86, and 1989. 1989 he earned Black Belt of the year & Instructor of the Year. In addition he has achieved over 100 awards for his efforts & accomplishments. In 2006 Master Ron started writing articles for The Iowa All Sports Paper where he is featured in his own column each month title "The Masters Corner".
Assistant Instructor Mrs. Ginter is a loyal black belt whose strong support and dedication has put her at the forefront of this academy. Her passion for the martial arts and strong leadership skills make her an inspiration by all.
The Way of the Warrior The core value system used in our academy is derived from Bushido, (The Way of the Warrior) a code of honor practiced by the Samurai Warriors. In 1990 the United States Army recognized the Bushido Code and implemented the warriors code into their training regiment. This entire code is built from a foundation of loyalty, honor, integrity, justice, and simple right & wrong.
The Dubuque Tactical Martial Arts Academy is designed to take the excitement
of the martial arts to the next level. Our training is for self defense
purposes ONLY, as well as to preserve the rich heritage of traditional
martial arts with the modification of modern day applications, practicalities,
theories, and concepts.
